Missions Remembering that we all
have been called to be missionaries, we strive to do three things: to spread
the gospel to everybody around us—at home, in school, and at work; to go out of
our neighborhood, once a year, to a different city, state, or country and
participate in a relief work; and to help support full-time missionaries and
missionary organizations. Most
importantly, everybody is encouraged to share the gospel in their daily lives, both in words and in deeds. World Relief World
Relief is a not-for-profit organization, commissioned by the National
Association of Evangelicals, whose mission is to work with churches to
alleviate human suffering worldwide in the name of Christ and to give life
and hope to those suffering from poverty, famine, disease, and persecution
due to wars and natural disasters.
Just as Jesus loved those in distress, World Relief has been meeting
the needs—physical, emotional, and spiritual—of those who are in distress, by
becoming the helping hands of the churches.
Our church has been partnering with World Relief in providing relief
to orphans in the Fresh Start Fresh Start Ministries of A Dime per Meal Participants in this
program set aside a dime at each meal throughout the week, bring them to
church on the Lord’s Day, and put them in a coin offering box. At Christmas, coins thus collected are
given to a charitable organization that helps feed children suffering from
mal-nutrition. We started this program
with several purposes in mind: to daily remember the hundreds of millions of
children worldwide who go to bed hungry, to thank the Lord for giving us,
unworthy sinners, our daily bread, and to begin to live a more humble, and
“sharing”, life. Everybody is
encouraged to participate in this daily exercise of spiritual discipline. Short-term Missions Every year the youth group
goes on a mission trip, with adult chaperones. In 2006, four children from our youth group
went to Peru and helped build an orphanage.
In 2007, fourteen youth and adults made a trip to Gulfport,
Mississippi to do relief work for Hurricane Katrina victims. In 2008, thirteen youth and adults went to
New Orleans to help restore the homes and buildings still in ruins. Support of Missionaries Currently, we are helping
